Ways to contact me:

I now have a Facebook Page set up for the cats only.  It is Bat Cave Cattery MacPherson.

AIM: BatCaveCattery
Yahoo Messenger: BatCaveCattery

Trillian: DVNREX

YouTube: DVNREX,  older video’s are on here.  Now that we have Facebook we will probably just use that.

My name is Melissa,  13 years ago I had the pleasure of being introduced to the Devon Rex Breed.  I moved from Virginia out to Seattle Washington to marry my husband Casey.   He had 2 beautiful Devon’s,  as soon as i met them I was instantly in love with the breed.  I’ve wanted to breed Devon’s since.  Now, finally I am able to have the best hobby in the world!  Soon to add to that will being able to show my babies.

Casey and I have 3 beautiful children.  A 12-year-old boy, a set of twins that are 9 one boy and one girl.   Now that all 3 of my human children are in full-time school, we decided that it was time for my dream of being a breeder to come true.  Thanks to  Amaya at Pixie Pals,  Anna and Stacey of Gentry, Robyn of Catasorusrex.  That dream quickly became a reality.

I love every single aspect of breeding Devon’s, from beginning to the sad part of letting the babies go to their new mommies and daddies.   Hopefully very soon I can add showing to a huge aspect.

I’ve also always wanted to show Devon’s.  Hopefully soon I will be able to do so.  My goal as a breeder is to have healthy, happy CFA standard kittens.   All of the cats have free roam of my home, yup that’s right even my stud has free roam.  The queens when they have their babies are kept a separate, well the kittens are until the kittens are able to walk around and use the litter box.  Then they also can roam free around the house.  My kitties are my pets first,  breeding last.  they are all very special to me.

This cattery does not breed Devon Rex’s for profit,  We breed for the love of the breed.  We are working towards being able to have a great time showing.   From time to time we may have kittens or Retired adults available for adoption to a forever home.

I am a stay at home mom, so my kitties get tons of attention all the time.    The kittens are raised with my 3 children, our 12 year old dog Bailey and our newest addition Monkey who is now 1 year old English Mastiff puppy.

I have been in the animal field for 17 years,  I started out doing my pre-internship at a wonderful vet office back east.  Quickly followed by volunteering at the local animal shelter.  Which lead to me working there.  That was the beautiful beginning to a very long time love and commitment to animal wellbeing.  I have worked with many rescues along the years, before I started into the wonderful world of devons.

I also do rehabilitation of abused, neglected, mistreated, and dogs and cats that owners are ready to put down due to behavior issues.  Most of the time it’s the humans who are at fault in the naughty behavior that they do not like.  I prefer working with the breeds no one else likes to deal with.  Which 99% of the time are bully breeds.  I have a huge soft spot for any and all bully breeds.   I hung my rehabilitation, and rescue hat partially up when we decided that i could now persue my love for Devon Rex cats.  Now,  my life is filled with my family, and my kitties.  Well really they are all one big family.  I still offer my advice and occasionally I still work with 1 rehabilitation client at a time every now and then.

If you have any questions please feel free to ask. My e-mail is melissa@batcavecattery.com

    Hi Mel,
Want a cat but feel on the edge of getting a Devon or not – all I can say is I am a first time cat owner. I usually have a dog because of my severe allergies to cats but not anymore. The Devon is a cat that I can actually have with me without any reaction.

Mel, I want to thank you for raising such wonderful cats. Having kittens/cats raised in a family environment makes a happier cat. You can tell that you and your family consider them part of the family and not just a business.
Smoky (my kitten) and Lucy (my adopted adult) are great! Smoky loves to play fetch and does so constantly. I love the way Smoky chirps when he is trying to find me. He and Lucy are constantly at my side. When I go to sleep at night I have gotten used to the loud purring with one cat on each side of me. I love them and want to say – Thank you!
